How To Wrap a Glass Tabletop for Moving
Step 1: Clean and Dry the Glass Tabletop
Step 2: Position Table on Moving Blanket
Step 3: Remove Legs Accordingly
Step 4: Keep Track Of Screws
Step 5: Wrap Entire Glass Tabletop
Step 6: Use Bubble Wrap to Add Layer of Protection
Step 7: Place Table Top In Moving Box
Step 8: Label Box Accordingly
Step 1: Clean and Dry the Glass Tabletop
Glass tables help with creating the illusion of more space and adding brightness to rooms. However, they can also get dirty and dusty relatively quickly. Prior to disassembling the table, it’s always worthwhile removing the dust and dirt. This will prevent any scratches during transit which can be caused by some types of dust particles.
Step 2: Position Table on Moving Blanket
Once you have a clean tabletop, lay down a clean moving blanket and carefully rotate the table so that the glass is on the blanket and the legs are pointing to the ceiling. This will keep the table secure, while also giving easy access to the table legs.
Step 3: Remove Legs Accordingly
You may need the instruction booklet for this stage, but hopefully, the table legs have a simple mechanism that is immediately visible. Follow the instructions and remove the table legs and wrap them in a moving blanket, and secure it with tape.’
Step 4: Keep Track Of Screws
This is the most frustrating step to miss. Keep track of all of the screws or you may be eating from an uneven table in your new home! You can tape the screws to their corresponding legs for an easier assembly.
Step 5: Wrap Entire Glass Tabletop
Now that the legs and screws are taken care of we can move our attention back to the glass tabletop. Using packing paper, wrap both faces of the glass tabletop and secure with moving tape. It is important to note that the tape should not come in direct contact with any glass surface as it will leave hard to remove marks.
Step 6: Use Bubble Wrap to Add Layer of Protection
Once you are happy with your layer of moving paper it is time to add a layer of bubble wrap. Glass is inherently fragile and should be protected with a thick layer of bubble wrap. Make sure not to miss any of the corners and secure with tape.
Step 7: Place Glass Tabletop In Moving Box
Ideally, you would like to use a specially constructed moving box designed to move this type of item, like Kent’s ‘Flexi Art-Pak’. If you do not have one, then you‘ll have to do your best with your own creation of the steps in this guide, make sure you are handling the glass tabletop with care and attention.
Step 8: Label Box Accordingly
Finally, let your friendly movers know that they are moving something that is heavy and fragile by labeling both sides of the box.
