Hidden Costs to Ask About 

Not every storage quote includes the same line items. Before signing, confirm  whether the following are included or charged separately. 

• Container delivery and collection fees. Some providers charge a flat fee,  others charge per kilometre or per trip. 

• Administration or account setup fees. These are sometimes charged at the  start of a storage contract and not disclosed in the headline rate. 

• Late payment fees and minimum storage periods. Some providers require a  minimum commitment of one to three months regardless of how long you  actually need the space. 

• Access fees. If you need to retrieve something from your container during the storage period, confirm whether access is included or charged per visit. 

• Insurance. Confirm whether contents insurance is included, offered as an  optional add on, or your responsibility to arrange independently.

A transparent storage quote should clearly separate the monthly storage rate  from any one off fees such as delivery, collection, handling and insurance. If a  quote presents a single monthly number without a breakdown, ask for the  itemised version before committing.
