Step 1: Group Plant Pot Sizes Together
Grouping plant pots together by size will allow you to quickly get into the swing of things. Different sizes plants will require slightly different packing supplies and methods. From a time-saving perspective, it’s best to work in a production line method and work small to large or large to small.
Step 2: Remove Plant From Current Plant Pot
To safely remove the plant place one hand around the plant’s base on top of the soil. Now begin to turn the pot upside down until the plant and soil begin to budge. You may need to tap the sides of the plant pot to loosen the edges. Be gentle but firm when removing the plant but don’t yank the plant. Take your time.
Step 3: Trim Loose Roots
Before repotting to the plastic moving pot, it’s a good idea to give any loose roots a trim. This will keep the plant in good health and make it easier to plant into a new pot. Make sure you read up on how to prune for each type of plant if you’re a little bit rusty.
Step 4: Get The Moving Plant Pot Ready
The new pot will require a little bit of attention before it is ready for a plant. First, make sure that you have selected an appropriately sized pot and that there is appropriate and fresh soil ready for the plant. Position the plant into the center of the new pot and fill any gaps around the side with fresh soil. Make sure that the plant fits nice and snug and that the pot feels firm and secure around the edges.
Step 5: Repot Into Moving Pot
Position the plant into the center of the new pot and fill any gaps around the side with fresh soil. Make sure that the plant fits nice and snug and that the pot feels firm and secure around the edges.
Step 6: Wrap And Protect The Old Plant Pot
Ceramic or terracotta pots are prone to damage during transit. Fill the now empty pot with packing paper or bubble wrap to protect the interior. Now lay the pot on the its side, on top of some corrugated cardboard or packing paper, starting at the edge. Roll the pot towards the other end of the protective material so that it wraps around the pot fully. Tape the packing material together to secure it in place. Now, stretch the plastic wrap over the opening and repeat until all faces of the pot are covered.
Step 7: Pack Pots into Moving Box
Now that the plants have been repotted and the old pots wrapped and ready, it’s time to start thinking about moving them to the vehicle. For now, we will focus on the old pots. Once the old pots are wrapped, it’s time to move them into a moving box. Use sturdy boxes and ideally one pot per box
Step 8: Load into Vehicle
Even with all of the protective packing materials, plant pots are still fragile, heavy items that should only be loaded on the floor of the vehicle with no heavy items stacked on top. For the heavier plant pots, ask a friend for help to avoid any issues when lifting.
